Opposition coalition’s presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to establish a water and sewerage system in Baa atoll Maalhos island in a government run by the Maldives Joint Opposition.
Speaking to residents of Maalhos on Sunday after inaugurating a campaign site in the island, the opposition candidate stated that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) during its government had attempted to establish a water and sewerage system in the island, however, the government was overthrown before the project could be carried out.
Solih highlighted that the current administration has been reckless in establishing a sewer system in Maalhos island and noted the island’s harbor is quite small. Solih pledged to bring solutions to all the issues faced by the residents during his term.
Moreover, Solih applauded the island’s council for their work to bring development to the island without relying on the government. As such, Maalhos council had successfully established a water plant as well as waste management system.
