Ballot boxes to be placed in two more resorts, total reaches to 44
The Commission's last list showed that ballot boxes will be placed in 42 resorts
Dhigali Maldives and OBLU by Atmosphere at Helengeli have since been added to the list
There are currently 132 resorts operating in the Maldives

Elections Commission (EC) has decided to place polling stations in two additional resorts.

While the Commission's last list showed that ballot boxes will be placed in 42 resorts, with the addition of Dhigali Maldives and OBLU by Atmosphere at Helengeli the total has increased to 44.

While the opportunity to re-register for September's polls is open until August 11, ballot boxes are to be placed in resorts with over 100 registered voters.

Elections Commission had initially announced that polling stations will be placed in resorts with over 250 eligible voters, which it had said was seven. While this decision had lead to immense public scrutiny, the Commission reversed its decision only after the ruling party's criticism.

While there are currently 132 resorts in the country, EC had said that over 70 resorts had declined to place polling stations. While the Commission had said that the names of these resorts will be publicized, they have yet to do so.

Elections Commission on Monday announced that they will be setting up 480 ballot boxes for September's polls.
