Nasheed confident that opposition will defeat President Yameen by a huge margin in September election

Solih and Naseem submitted their application forms on Thursday morning

Self-exiled former President Mohamed Nasheed has congratulated the opposition coalition’s Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his running mate Member of Parliament for Kaashidhoo constituency Faisal Naseem following the successful submission of their application forms to contest in the approaching Presidential Election.

The self-exiled opposition leader took to twitter on Thursday, congratulating Solih and Naseem and adding that he believes the opposition will defeat incumbent President Abdulla Yameen by a huge margin, with the grace of god.

The translation of the tweet typed out in Dhivehi reads that with the grace of god, President Yameen will lose by a huge margin and that Nasheed is confident in the opposition’s win.

After submitting his forms for candidacy, Solih speaking to RaajjeMV said that they have taken one step forward in their reform efforts to ensure the independence of citizens in regards to the Maldives 53rd Independence Day marked on the 26th of July.

Solih and Naseem had with members and supporters of the opposition, hosted a walk on Thursday morning from main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s head office to the Elections Commission without being obstructed by the police.

President Yameen’s government and he himself has drawn public criticism for allegations of corruption and taking advantage of his position as the ruler. Voices all over the nation are calling for his resignation with religious scholars slamming the government over the use of statues as art, at a local resort, Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi.
