Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group leader, is the best presidential candidate for the opposition, says Jumhooree Party (JP)’s President Ali Waheed.
Waheed said this to RaajjeMV on Saturday after the opposition coalition agreed to field a member of MDP as the presidential candidate and a member of JP as the running mate.
Waheed, the former Chairperson of MDP, said that Solih is the best candidate to defeat President Abdulla Yameen in the polls, given the current situation. Waheed said that he has personally worked with Solih for a long time and therefore knows that he has the capability to lead within the coalition.
He said that JP will announce the running mate soon but earlier on Saturday Waheed tweeted that the best pick for running mate is Aishath Nahula, JP council member and the youngest wife of party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
While MDP is to announce its presidential candidate at their ongoing congress, many have shown their support for Solih as the candidate.
