Adhaalath Party leader and Imran Abdulla has again been transferred to house arrest.

RaajjeMV understands that his transfer to house arrest comes following renovations in his prison cell.

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) information officer Ahmed Luqman told RaajjeMV that Imran was transferred to house arrest due to renovations in his prison cell and that he will be transferred back to prison as soon as the renovations are complete.

The detained opposition leader was transferred to house arrest eight months before. His first house transfer came following the birth of his newborn son.

Imran was arrested for his speech at the mass ‘May Day’ rally in 2015, which the government said stirred unrest and violence within protesters, leading to several arrests of opposition members and clashes between protesters and officers of the police service. He is now serving a 12-year prison sentence.
