A video has been circulating online of Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed being berated by a resident while out campaigning for President Abdulla Yameen.

In the video from Friday, the residents are refusing to listen to Minister Saeed, who is outside his home in Male’ City with other members of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

A woman is heard repeatedly saying that she does not want to listen to Minister Saeed while he tries to talk to her and other residents of the house. A man is also seen telling him that he is involved in “serious criminal acts”.

The residents told Saeed that he would also be jailed, asking whether someone who would jail his own brother would make an exception for anyone else. This is in reference to President Yameen who jailed his half-brother and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom over planning an alleged coup.

While Saeed was with his bodyguards and PPM members, none attempted to intervene.

It's high time we maldivians woke up and free our country from these crooks. no one knows how much is our national debt. all he knows is to mortgage our country and take loans to build skyscrapers in Male' and Hulhumale' for those who benefited from the corrupt regime. the islanders are forced to migrate to Male' area due to lack of facilities in the atolls. How could the fishermen in the islands continue to live separate from the family - no employment opportunities in Male' area for all those living in concrete 400 sq ft cubicles. we need a leader who could free us from tyranny and provide opportunities to live in our beautiful islands happily.
