Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has fined cable TV service Medianet MVR 52,000 for making changes to their packages without notifying the commission.

Broadcom stated that it fined Medianet because the content in their “Hits” package was different from the one the commission had approved and that their subsequent investigation showed that Medianet had changed the content in their “Hits” package after approval.

Since the “Hits” package was changed three times, Medianet was fined MVR 2,000 for each time they changed the package, which comes to a total of MVR 6,000.

Noting that Medianet provides their services to 23 channels, Broadcom stated that the cable TV service has also been fined MVR 2,000 for each channel that they provided their unapproved “Hits” package to, which comes to a total of MVR 46,000.

Medianet has been given 30 days to pay the MVR 52,000 fine.
