Over a thousand cases of dengue virus had been reported by local hospitals and health facilities thus far this year, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said.
The HPA said that a total of 1,348 cases have been reported thus far this year, out of which 427 were in capital city Malé while 921 were from the outlying islands.
A statement from the agency said that spread of the disease had been aggravated by monsoon rains within the past months. The HPA said that the spread has been controlled.
The statement also said that it has ensured that all state-run health facilities are capable of providing tests and treatment for the disease.
The private-run hospital says that a total of 115 people came to them with fever-related symptoms on the 15th of May, alone.
