EC receives over 1,700 complaints regarding voter's list
The commission received a total of 1,778 complaints
most of these complaints have to do with the list including names of individuals who are underage and even deceased

Over 1,700 complaints have been filed with the Elections Commission (EC) regarding their voter’s list for the upcoming presidential elections.

In a post on their Twitter account on Thursday, the commission said most of these complaints have to do with the list including names of individuals who are underage and even deceased.

The tweet says that the commission received a total of 1,778 complaints by the time the deadline for submitting complaints expired on Wednesday.

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party had also filed a host of complaints about the voter’s list, which includes the list not including the national identity card numbers of voters.

The party said before filing their complaints that they have put forth over 1,000 points of concern. While as much complaints were filed by Thursday, on Monday the commission said it had then received just 34 complaints.

The window for complaints was set from 11th to 20th June. The commission was to stop accepting them at 1:30pm on Wednesday, although this was extended to 10:30pm.

The Elections Commission’s voter’s list for the presidential elections, set September 23rd, include a total of 263,183 names.
