27-yo male arrested trying to smuggle drugs into Himmafushi Prison

An individual was arrested trying to smuggle in suspected narcotic substances to Asseyri Prison in Kaafu Himmafushi.

Maldives Police Service said that the individual - a 27-year-old male - was arrested in an operation conducted by the Himmafushi Police Station, in their campaign against substance abuse.

Noting that its intelligence had received a tip that an individual was attempting to smuggle drugs into Asseyri Prison, police said that the suspect was arrested at around 11:34pm on June 9, from the Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center next to Asseyri Prison.

Police said that the individual was searched after the arrest, and that a rubber packet and cellophane piece, allegedly containing narcotics, were found on the ground from where he had been standing.

Police further said that its Himmafushi Police Station is currently investigating the matter.
