After days of speculation that he is poised to become the Maldives Joint Opposition's candidate for the upcoming presidential elections, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has finally broken his silence.

The parliamentarian for Hinnavaru constituency broke his silence via twitter, with a cryptic poem.

The verse speaks about the fact that the roads in a jungle are different, and called to give things a thought instead of being shocked by it.

Solih's puzzling tweet comes days after reports surfaced that he will be the opposition's candidate for the presidential elections, slated for September. However, MDP's co-founder and leader, former President Mohamed Nasheed won the party's ticket for the election, in the primary held on May 30; he is not eligible to contest in the presidential elections.

Some members of the Joint Opposition have been taking sides in the matter, and have had arguments on public platforms such as twitter.

The Maldives Joint Opposition comprises of MDP, Jumhooree Party (JP), Adhaalath Party (AP) and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's faction of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). The opposition maintains that they will be uniting behind one candidate for the presidential elections.

However, JP's leader Qasim Ibrahim has indicated that it does not support Nasheed nor Solih as a candidate.
