Corrections officer arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs into Maafushi prison
The arrested official was positive to drugs as well as having smuggled them into prison
He was arrested under an operation conducted on Wednesday
Several other officers of MCS have previously been arrested under similar accusations

A senior official of the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has been arrested over a case of smuggling drugs into the Maafushi island prison.

An MCS staff sergeant was arrested in an operation the Maldives Police Service (MPS) had conducted on Wednesday, which the MCS itself had confirmed to some media outlets.

The MCS had however, not revealed any further details on the matter.

According to sources, as well as carrying a copious amount of narcotics substances and cash, the official who had been taken to police custody was positive to drugs.

The official is also accused of drug dealing alongside smuggling them into prison and providing them for detainees.

While MCS officers are being rumored to have a hand in smuggling drugs into prisons, every once in a while an officer of the MCS is reported to have been arrested under such accusations.

RaajjeMV was unable to attain a comment from MCS at the time of publishing.
