President Nasheed has been determined as the MDP candidate proposed to the opposition coalition's 'one-candidate' position

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has won Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) presidential primary with a vast majority.

The party primaries held a yes-or-no vote since President Nasheed was the sole candidate who ran to secure MDP's ticket for the upcoming presidential election.

Amongst the members who partook in the voting, 43,922 individuals voted in favor of President Nasheed. Meanwhile, from a total of 44,011 votes, 14 people voted against him and 75 votes were invalid. Therefore the former president secured MDP's ticket for the presidential election with 99.8% votes.

A profuse number of MDP members voted in the party primaries which took place in Male', all the inhabited islands of Maldives as well as abroad. However, the police's attempt to stop the primary election upon Elections Commission's (EC) request failed since MDP initiated other means of casting votes as police began seizing ballot boxes from all around the nation.

With this success, President Nasheed has been determined as the MDP candidate proposed to the opposition coalition's 'one-candidate' position.
