Watermelon price has dropped to MVR 20 in the local market.
Sellers at the local market have said that the reason for the price deflation is an increase in the supply of watermelons. The major local watermelon importers are AA. Thoddoo, HA. Kelaa and K. Kaashidhoo. Watermelons from abroad are also available in the local market.
Looking at the prices of other products in the market, while a kilo of chilli is for MVR 400, 100 grams is priced between MVR 35 and 45.
While a passion fruit kilo is available for MVR 50, a pomegranate kilo is sold at MVR 75. Furthermore, a kilo of papaya is available for MVR 20, one pineapple is sold for MVR 40 and four bananas are available for MVR 10. And as a pumpkin kilo is sold for MVR 30, a kilo of egglants are available for MVR 25.
Merchants active in the local market report that most people buy fruits this Ramadan and that the demand remains high even now.
