Incumbent United States President Donald Trump has appointed a new ambassador to the Maldives and Sri Lanka, forwarding her name for Senate confirmation.

If her name is approved, long serving foreign service officer Alaina B Teplitz will replace current ambassador Atul Keshap, who has been immensely vocal about Maldives’ problematic political situation.

Teplitz is the current US ambassador to Nepal. She was also Minister Counselor for Management at the US mission in Kabul from 2011 – 2012.

Her bio data, publicized by the State Department, says she has ‘championed efforts to improve knowledge management, data use and risk management’.
