Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that former Islamic Minister Dr. Abdul Majeed Baaree is an individual who worked towards progress.
Regarding the recent death of Dr Majeed, Nasheed said he always spoke in favor of justice and that he is someone who gave advice while keeping God in mind. Additionally, President Nasheed prayed that Dr. Majeed is granted a place in heaven.
While Dr. Majeed was the state minister for Islamic Affairs during President Nasheed's administration, he was given the power to veto cases with regard to Islamic standards. As a result, President Nasheed dismissed the cases vetoed by the former minister from the cabinet meetings.
In addition to visiting Dr. Majeed at the hospital earlier, President Nasheed also paid his respects to the family of the deceased in person.
The former state minister passed away at noon on Tuesday while receiving treatment due to a sudden change in his medical condition after a stroke during a trip to Sri Lanka.
The funeral prayer for Dr. Majeed is to be held tomorrow at Jawatta mosque in Colombo, after noon prayers.
