Opposition lawmaker and Member of Parliament for North-Galolhu Constituency Eva Abdulla has said that Mohamed Nasheed, the former President and leader of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), is the only hope for the release of political prisoners.
Speaking to the press while putting up Nasheed's campaign posters in capital city Male', the MP said that he is the people's only hope to be free of President Yameen's tyrannical rule.
Eva had also expressed her immense delight in hearing the news of May Day detainee, young goalkeeper Labaan Shareef's release on Sunday, adding that she wishes to see the release of political detainees next.
In the activity held under the "Jazeera Raees" campaign to garner support for Nasheed in the upcoming MDP primaries slated for the 30th of May, Eva said that the party primary is the start of the Presidential election and so, Nasheed's campaign starts with the primary election.
Eva highlighted that Nasheed continues to convey his message and speak to residents of capital city Male' as well as outlying islands as part of his campaign efforts, having spoken to residents of over 70 islands thus far. She requested all members of the opposition to cast their votes in the primary elections and for as many people as possible to take part in the campaign efforts.
"I request all members of the MDP to come forth and cast your votes in the primary elections. If we hope to liberate ourselves from the clutches of tyranny, we must always be ready to work for the fulfillment of that hope" said Eva.
According to Eva, Nasheed has the full support from citizens in her constituency.
Some of Nasheed's key pledges are noted in the campaign poster put up in Nooraanee Villa Ge on Sunday.
Nasheed's campaign rallies are being held in the capital city as well as in outlying island.
