Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef has said that it is in the hands of citizens to approve former President Mohamed Nasheed’s candidacy for this year’s presidential election.
The MP said this at Nasheed’s campaign rally in GDh Thinadhoo on Saturday night.
At the rally, MP Shareef said it was important for as many people as possible to vote for Nasheed in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) primary election to confirm his candidacy.
Noting that any MDP member registered before May 25 can vote, he said that Nasheed will win the primaries with 25,000 votes.
He said that many citizens have come out to join political activities after Nasheed began his campaign across the country, which is a ‘green signal’ that the citizens disapprove of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen.
The results of the primaries would be that giving Nasheed the opportunity to run in the election becomes necessary, which would come about with the help of the international community.
