Ex-president Nasheed submits primary elections bid
Nasheed’s elections bid has been endorsed by a total of 7,739 signatures
The party’s policies dictate that a candidate for its primary must have at least 500 endorsements
Nasheed, the party’s founder, has thus far been the only candidate to be contesting in the upcoming elections

Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s campaign team has on Saturday submitted bid for candidacy in the Maldivian Democratic Party’s primary elections, slated for 30th May.

Hithadhoo-North constituency MP Mohamed Aslam submitted the signatures and candidacy forms at an event held at the party’s office in capital city Malé. Hassan Latheef, the party’s chairperson, had accepted the forms.

Nasheed’s elections bid has been endorsed by a total of 7,739 signatures. His campaign team has met and spoken with residents in Malé city, its extensions, and the outlying islands.

The party’s policies dictate that a candidate for its primary must have at least 500 endorsements. Nasheed, the party’s founder, has thus far been the only candidate to be contesting in the upcoming elections.
