The Maldives government has opened Sosun Villa Park in Colombo, Sri Lanka - the first children’s park built outside the Maldives.

The park exhibiting Maldivian culture has been built in Sosun Villa, an area with a large Maldivian community.

Sri Lankan company Sierra Construction funded and designed the park as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The company was handed the project in March, last year.

The park’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ sections contains playground sets and are made exclusively for children. Section ‘C’ has a pond, swings, and traditional Maldivian roped seats called ‘joali fathi’.

Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that the park, worth MVR 1.6 million, was built due to the requests of the Maldivians living in the area.
