Conviction of SC justices being appealed hurts President Yameen's ambitions: Nasheed
If the High Court backs the conviction, appeals will consecutively be sent to the three remaining justices of the Supreme Court
Appeals were on Tuesday filed at the High Court regarding the prison convictions against Saeed Hameed

Former President and opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s leader Mohamed Nasheed has said that incumbent President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's ambitions will be 'immensely hurt' upon appealing the illicit convictions raised on Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed.

In a tweet typed out in Dhivehi, Nasheed - whose campaign for the preisdential primaries are proceeding at a swift speed - said that the the initial ruling passed by the Supreme Court's full bench on the 01st of February would have much more exuberance if new Justices cannot be appointed to Supreme Court.

Appeals were on Tuesday filed at the High Court regarding the prison convictions against Saeed Hameed.

The appeals are for the one year, seven months, and six days jail term imposed on both Justices on the 10th of May for influencing the conduct of a public official, and the four months and 24 days in prison imposed on Saeed on the 24th of May for interfering with functions of the government.

If the High Court backs the conviction, appeals will consecutively be sent to the three remaining justices of the Supreme Court.
