Jailed former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been taken to ADK Hospital.

The opposition leader was taken from his island prison to the capital city on Friday evening.

RaajjeMV understands that he was taken to hospital to undergo tests and visit an ENT specialist.

His wife, former First Lady Nasreena Ibrahim, and daughter Yumna Maumoon also went to the hospital but were unable to meet him.

The former First Lady had also been visiting Maumoon in prison after his health began deteriorating last week. He has been diagnosed with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), which causes a false sensation of spinning. Doctors have recommended that someone be with him at all times as he is in danger of falling down and injuring himself.
