Justice Hameed is facing charges of 'influencing the conduct of public officials'

Supreme Court Justice Ali Hameed has been taken to a hospital while court proceedings for criminal charges against him were ongoing, after due to a sudden decline in his health condition.

Justice Hameed reported anxiety and difficulty breathing as Wednesday night's proceedings were ongoing, for which he has now been admitted. The hearing has been rescheduled.

Justice Hameed has had a medical history that requires keen treatment. The top court adjudicator had been hospitalized before as well, since his arrest this February.

The sentencing hearing on charges of 'influencing the conduct of public officials', raised against both Justice Hameed and Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, was initially scheduled for Wednesday evening before being delayed to 07:00pm and then to 08:00pm.

Hameed's health condition delayed the hearing to 09:30pm and the Criminal Court has now confirmed its cancellation. Both adjudicators are facing charges of terrorism for 'conspiring to overthrow the government'.

This week, the Criminal Court sentenced Chief Justice Saeed to four months and 24 days in prison over charges of 'interfering in state functions'.
