Elections Commission (EC) member Mohamed Shakeel has been appointed as a state minister at the economic ministry after resigning from the commission.

EC’s president Ahmed Shareef, who is in Malaysia to observe its presidential election, said that he has been informed of Shakeel’s resignation.

Ibrahim Muaz, spokesperson at the President’s Office, made a Tweet confirming that the President has appointed Shakeel as a state minister on Wednesday.

Shakeel was appointed as a member of EC on 3 December 2014.
