Yumna Maumoon, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s daughter, has been given five days to assign a lawyer.
Yumna was summoned to the police on Wednesday evening on allegations of giving bribes to overthrow the government.
At police headquarters, she said she wishes to proceed with a lawyer. The police service previously gave her a day to assign one the day before, but Yumna had said it would be difficult to find one in one day.
Her father former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, brother MP Faris Maumoon, and husband Mohamed Nadheem have been charged for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to overthrow the government and have been remanded for the rest of their trials.
