Lawyer Maumoon Hameed has said that when the doctor advised jailed former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to be kept with his family, he didn’t mean to arrest the entire family.
He said this in a tweet on Sunday night after the police issued a summons for Yumna Maumoon, daughter of the former president, after raising allegations of her being involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the government.
In the tweet, Maumoon Hameed noted that authorities have already jailed Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, son MP Faris Maumoon, and son-in-law Mohamed Nadheem.

You already have Pres. @maumoonagayoom @afarismaumoon MP & @MNadhym in custody.
I could be wrong, but I really don't think that when the doctor advised Raees Maumoon be kept with his family, he meant arrest the entire family...
Time to get a second opinion, perhaps? pic.twitter.com/Un4Ii00irA
Yumna is to be summoned on Monday at 4pm.
Former President Maumoon, MP Faris, and Yumna’s husband Nadheem are all jailed for their alleged involvement in the conspiracy to overthrow the government. If Yumna were to be arrested, it would mean that everyone in Maumoon’s family who vocally criticize President Abdulla Yameen’s government would be in jail.
Maumoon’s daughter Dunya Maumoon is split between supporting her father and uncle, President Yameen. Maumoon’s son Ghassan Maumoon has never been vocal in trying to free him from jail.
