The police service has not given the medical report to jailed former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s family after his hospital visit, says Aminath Nadira, deputy chief of Maumoon’s faction of the ruling party.
Speaking at a panel discussion on Sunday night, Nadira said Maumoon had been taken to hospital last week as well as on Sunday and that the police have yet to give the medical documents to his lawyers or family.
Nadira said blood tests were done on Maumoon and that his legal team had gone to Dhoonidhoo island prison but were denied the test results.
She also noted that Maumoon is suffering from Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), which is a disorder that causes vertigo. Maumoon’s wife has said that due to the disorder Maumoon has been having headaches since last week.
Calling on authorities to transfer him to house arrest, Nadira said that even the police have acknowledged that they are unable to properly take care of Maumoon and that he now needs the loving support of his family.
