The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that their primary elections to decide a potential presidential candidate will be held on May 30th.

Several other decisions regarding the party’s policies for the upcoming elections were made at a closed-door meeting on Wednesday.

MDP’s deputy president Mohamed Shifaz had submitted a motion on regulations that need to be followed in selecting a candidate, which was supported by 20 members at Wednesday’s assembly. The motion itself was compiled by former president Mohamed Nasheed.

MDP has set the deadline to step forward to contest for the primary ballots at May 15th. Nasheed had announced that he will be contesting as well.
