EC decides to finance MDP after receiving audit report
MDP will receive an amount of 7.5 million MVR
Four political parties will receive financial support.
Two parties were rejected because they did not have 10,000 registered members.

Soon after Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) delivered their audit report to Elections Commission (EC), the commission has decided to grant MVR 7.5 million to MDP under the government's obligation to provide financial support to political parties.

EC reported that since MDP sent their audit report as obliged, the commission has decided to provide financial support for the party and added that they will be continuing the process with Ministry of Finance this week.

However, EC sent the request to finance other qualified political parties to the ministry a week ago even though MDP was given the opportunity to send their audit report by 8th May.

EC has decided to provide financial support to four political parties with over 10,000 members, under a budget of MVR 24 million. The amount for each party was decided by the total number of registered members in a party; MVR 251.58 per member.

With regard to the number of members, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is to receive the largest amount which is MVR 11.5 million . While Maldives Development Alliance will receive MVR 2.5 million ,Jumhooree Party is to receive MVR 2.6 million.
