Woman trapped in Malé Grand lift for over an hour
The incident occurred due to a power outage
According to residents there, its backup generator and fire alarm systems are faulty
A similar incident occurred last Tuesday at Gaakoshi flats, where three individuals were trapped inside a lift

A woman was trapped in the lift at the Malé Grand for over an hour on Saturday night.

A bystander told RaajjeMV that a young woman had gotten stuck inside the lift at Malé Grand due to a power outage there, adding that this happened at around 10:15pm on Saturday.

A RaajjeMV reporter headed to the scene immediately, and saw officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Fire and Rescue Service were working to get her out of the lift. They were able to rescue her at around 11:45pm.

Some residents at Malé Grand have reported that its backup generator is faulty, as well as the fire alarm systems.

A similar incident occurred last Tuesday at Gaakoshi flats; a power outage caused the lifts in block A and B to stop working, trapping three individuals. One of the people trapped, a woman, had to be rushed to hospital for treatment.

Back in 2016, a woman who was trapped in a lift for a little over four minutes- in Tallaght, South Dublin- was awarded €25,060 by Ireland’s High Court, for the psychological trauma the ordeal had caused.
