MRC to use in-kind donations to support local nonprofits
MRC will be donating to local public schools, health centers, and a total of 10 organizations and institutes
The donations include laptop and desktop computers, hard disk drives, shredders, and other office equipment
MRC said it wishes to support organizations that work for the humanitarian benefit of society’s most vulnerable members

The Red Cross Society of China has made in-kind donations worth thousands to its local counterpart, the Maldives Red Crescent, some of which is to be given away to other local nonprofit organizations.  

The Maldives Red Crescent officially took over the donations at an event held in capital city Malé on Wednesday eveningm as part of the Red Cross Society of China’s ongoing Non-Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Program.

The donations include laptop and desktop computers, hard disk drives, shredders, and other office equipment. The Maldives Red Crescent said that the total price of the donations they received is over USD 177,000.

While the Maldives Red Crescent will be using some of it at their head and regional offices, they are giving away the donations to local public schools and a total of 10 organizations and institutes.

The Maldives Red Crescent will be using what they received on Wednesday to donate to:

  • Care Society
  • Maldives Association for Physical Disabilities
  • Fiyavathi – a children’s shelter in Hulhumalé
  • Kudakudhinge Hiyaa – a children’s home in Vilimalé
  • Home for People with Special Needs – an institute located in Kaafu Atoll’s Guraidhoo
  • Maldives NCD Alliance
  • National Drug Agency
  • Scout Association of Maldives
  • Maldives Girl Guide Association
  • Maldives Cadet Corps

The Maldives Red Crescent also said that they will donate to 16 schools and 16 health centers on islands they have operating offices on.

A statement from the organization on Thursday said that the intent behind this initiative is to support organizations that work for the humanitarian benefit of society’s most vulnerable members, on a nation-wide scale as well as a regionally.
