Maldivian national volleyball team is out of the Asian Volleyball Confederation's (AVC) Central Zone Championship which is currently being held in Bangladesh.
Maldives lost to Bangladesh with a straight score of 0-3. While this is the second match that the Maldivian team lost in the tournament, the scores were 15-25, 15-25 and 22-25. Maldives lost to Bangladesh at 0-3 even in 2016 which put Bangladesh at the top of the pool.
Maldivian national team played their first match of the championship against Nepal this year. Even though Maldives secured third place in 2016 by beating Nepal, the team lost to them with a straight score of 0-3 in this year's tournament. The sets were scored at 21-25, 17-25 and 15-25. Similarly, Maldives lots to Nepal with a straight score at the central zone tournament held in Maldives last year.
Maldivian team participated in this year's tournament without experienced players such as Ismail Sajidh, Ishan Ibrahim, Ahmed Ahsan, Mohamed Shaain and Ashfaq Adam. Therefore some new players were able to make the team for the first time this year.
While Maldives secured the third place in the central zone tournament held in Bangladesh in 2016, the team has not been able to win any matches the last two years. Additionally, Maldives could not score even a single set in this year's tournament.
