The Criminal Court has scheduled another pre-trial hearing over the obstruction charges put forth against Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Justice Ali Hameed, and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayooom.

The hearing has been scheduled for 15:00 on Monday. The last hearing in the case was held on the 10th of April, and the judge had then clarified if the defendants wish to seek legal representation.

Former president Gayoom had asked for an additional 15 days to appoint a lawyer, and the judge had told him that he can only be given a maximum of 10 days to do so.

Both justice Hameed and Saeed had asked for 10 days to appoint their legal representation and were given as such.

The Supreme Court justices along with the former president were apprehended in early February on allegations of bribery and conspiring to overthrow the government.

Prosecutors have also put forth against them charges of terrorism and obstructing the investigation by destroying evidence.
