High probability of swell waves throughout Maldives : Met office
Swell waves are most expected in southern most atolls with thundershowers

Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has said that there is a high possibility of swell waves in different areas of the country for today.

An official from Met Office speaking to RaajjeTV during a special coverage to report damages caused by turbulent weather conditions in different atolls at 10:30 on Saturday night, said that there is a probability that high tides will cause swell waves throughout the country for the next 24 hours.

The official said that although particular regions cannot be pinpointed, according to their analysis, tidal waves are expected throughout the nation.

The Met office's models show that swell waves are most expected in westward atolls.

The Met office estimates that tides will be the highest in the evening and that swell waves are expected in northern most atolls at around 05:00 pm, in central Maldives at 05:30 and at 07:00 pm in southern most atolls.

Scattered rains are expected over southern atolls with a few thundershowers.

Thunderstorms are expected through the whole country and surface winds will be south-west to westerly at 13-23 miles per hour in southern-most atolls and 3-15 miles per hour elsewhere.

Winds may gust 40 miles per hour during shower and seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers in southern atolls and slight becoming moderate over the rest of the country.
