Defence Minister Adam Shareef has commended officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for their obedience in not enforcing a contentious Supreme Court order.
Minister Shareef expressed this appreciation at an event held on Saturday to commemorate the MNDF’s 126th anniversary.
Shareef said that the MNDF was crucial to the government’s attempts to quash the ‘judicial coup’, as the minister and officials of the government previously described the court order, and he thanked them for it.
Minister Shareef further said that there are immense threats to Maldivian culture, tradition, and religious beliefs from ‘external and internal sources’.
Shareef called on the officers gathered to hear his address to use their ‘skills and training’ to tackle such threats and uphold Maldives’ sovereignty.
