The allied opposition parties have held an anti-government rally calling for judicial independence and President Abdulla Yameen’s resignation on Friday as well.

The rally kicked off in front of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s assembly site in Henveiru of capital city Malé.

Ahmed Abdulla, the party’s chiarperson’s deputy of finance, said that President Yameen will soon be ‘jailed’ for his corruption and unlawful decisions.

MP Mohamed Thoriq, the parliamentary representative for the Manadhoo constituency, also said that a ‘leader who turns his back on his people’ does not have to be referred to as a ‘president’.

The allied opposition parties have been holding serial rallies in capital city Malé after President Yameen refused to enforce a Supreme Court ruling demanding the release of unfairly jailed individuals.
