The man is yet to be apprehended or questioned

A Maldivian national involved in the ongoing multi-sided conflict in Syria has returned and is current residing in capital city Malé, local media outlets have reported.

Online newspaper Mihaaru reported on Monday that the man left to Syria with his family, wife and child, and returned in March.

While it has been a crime for locals to join foreign battles, as enshrined in the Prevention of Terrorism, since 2016, the man is yet to be arrested.

RaajjeMV was unable to obtain a comment from the police about the matter at the time of publishing.

There have been other such reports as well; back in October 2017, there were reports that three individuals caught while attempting to enter Syria, via Turkey, were freed by the Criminal Court.
