The International Moderation Forum has conferred its Award of Recognition to President Abdulla Yameen for his involvement in promoting the true message of Islam.
The International Moderation Forum promotes a moderate Islamic vision and combats global terrorism.
After receiving the award at a ceremony on Sunday at the President’s Office, President Yameen expressed his appreciation for receiving the award, which he said will bolster his effort in combatting terrorism and advocating for moderate Islam in the Maldives.
President Yameen highlighted the establishment of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and the enactment of the Prevention of Terrorism Act in 2016, as notable milestones in implementing measures to foil radical thought, terrorism, and violent extremism.
Previous recipients of the award include the late king of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, and Former President of Mauritania Mohamed Wildhu Abdulaziz.
