They were transferred on Saturday
No reason has been provided regarding the transfer
The officers are alleged to have conspired to unlawfully overthrow the current government

S.O. Police officers who are alleged to have worked to unlawfully overthrow the government have been transferred to Maafushi Prison on Saturday.

Officers who were arrested under the state of emergency, which was declared by President Yameen after refusing to implement the Supreme Court ruling released on 1st February, include Former Commander of S.O.; Inspector of Police Saif Hussain, Station Inspector Faiz Mohamed, Police SWAT team's Sargeant Abdulla Riyaz, Corporal Ali Naseer, Corporal Hassan Naseer, Corporal Mohamed Shamin and Sargeant Ahmed Asim. They are purported to have worked towards the implementation of the aforestated Supreme Court order.

We received information that the arrested officers have been laid off from their jobs. RaajjeMV had access to copies of the termination letters received by some of the arrested police officers which highlight the officers' involvement in conspiring to overthrow a legally established government unlawfully. The letters also alleged arrested officers' to have opposed Maldivian security forces by physically attacking other police officers engaged in ensuring peace at political rallies and also implied their role in propagating distrust against security forces.

Former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef was sacked and later arrested under the same concerns as well. Sources indicate that Areef is still confined in Dhoonidhoo jail.
