EC to discuss elections with pro-government parties only
Joint Opposition parties boycotted the meetings after accusing the commission of working with the ruling party to gain information on the opposition’s plan for the election
EC member Akram said despite the boycott, the commission will hold meetings with other parties as scheduled

After the Joint Opposition parties boycotted the Elections Commission (EC) meetings, the commission has decided to hold meetings to discuss the upcoming presidential elections with pro-government parties only.

EC had previously scheduled meetings with all six parties, but opposition parties Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhoree Party (JP), and Adhaalath Party (AP) have decided not to join the meetings.

EC member Ahmed Akram told RaajjeMV that despite the boycott, the commission will hold the meetings with other parties as scheduled. They are ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), and Divehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP).

The Joint Opposition parties boycotted EC’s meetings after accusing the commission of working with the ruling party to gain information on the opposition’s plan for the election.
