Arrest of Pres Maumoon
'Laws are not being respected, I regret having worked for Yameen': Aneesa
'It is as if the constitution does not exist' she said
People who don't respect the constitution will not respect any laws or regulations, she further said
Aneesa also said that the allegations made against ex-president Maumoon are baseless

Former Minister Aneesa Ahmed said that this government takes actions irrespective of the constitution and she regrets ever having worked for Yameen.

While answering Raajje TV in front of the Criminal Court as Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom's court hearing was ongoing, Aneesa said that President Maumoon supported Yameen's campaign in hopes that he would bring about peace, contentment and prosperity to the people of Maldives. She added that she regrets working for Yameen given that things did not work out as expected.

"Because I speculated  President Yameen to act according to rules and regulations, and strictly follow laws after being elected as the President of Maldives. I hoped that he would want the best for this country and work towards the development of Maldives. However, I no longer believe that to be true", said Aneesa.

Aneesa also noted that the constitution is almost nonexistent today and that things are being undertaken irrespective of it. She said that people who do not respect the constitution will not obey any laws or regulations. While adding about her experience working towards the formation of the constitution and having worked under Maldivian laws and regulations, she mentioned that the situation is different today in that even the tenor of laws and regulations are being ignored.

While answering questions about the criminal case against President Maumoon, Aneesa denied the legitimacy of the allegations made against him. She also noted the lack of evidence for the allegations.
