AG Anil speaking about the law is 'embarrassing': ex-minister Maleeh Jamaal
Jamaal said that it is 'embarrassing' to hear Anil speak about the law
Jamaal further said that 'such a man' should not be allowed to stay in the position he is in

Attorney General Mohamed Anil speaking on legal matters rouses embarrassment, says former Youth Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal.

The former minister's sentiments towards Anil are, according to his comments, instigated by his part in the government delaying and reppealing a Supreme Court order.

Jamaal, said this in a post on his Twitter account, in reference to Attorney General Anil’s address at an event on Sunday night to provide practicing licensing to a number of law graduates.

Jamaal, through said post, expresses his lack of confidence in Anil’s ability to carry out the mandate of his office. Jamaal said ‘such a man’ should not be allowed to stay in this position.

The Supreme Court, on February 1st, contentiously ordered the release of nine individuals deemed to have been victims of unfair judicial process and to reinstate lawmakers previously said to have been dismissed.

Attorney General Anil and Azima Shakoor, legal minister at the President’s Office, were at the forefront of the government’s refusal to enforce this ruling. Anil said in a press conference, hours after the ruling was issued, that its validity is yet to be decided.

The government was subject to heavy scrutiny, both domestically and internationally, due to its decision to keep said individuals in incarceration and its treatment of activists that took to the streets in protest of the state’s refusal to enforce the ruling.

Two Supreme Court justices were apprehended after the government announced a 45-day state of emergency, and said ruling was repealed by the remaining three justices.
