South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof has said that the government officials who threaten people with prison are the ones who will not be able to stand even one day in jail.
He said this on Twitter in response to Ibrahim Falaah, the deputy leader of the ruling party’s parliamentary group, saying that opposition leader and former President Mohamed Nasheed will be jailed if he returns to Maldives.
While Falaah has made similar threats to Nasheed in the past, MP Mahloof said that people like him are not able to contemplate the pain of being away from one’s family even for a day.
Arrested under the prolonged state of emergency on February 22, Mahloof has since been charged with terrorism and the Criminal Court had, on Wednesday, ordered for him to be kept under house arrest for the remainder of his trial. He has also been charged for giving out gas masks during a political rally and has also been investigated over two tweets he made.
Mahloof also served 10 months and 24 days in prison during the current administration after being found guilty of obstruction police officers.
