Former state minister Dunya Maumoon has welcomed the court’s decision to transfer MP Ahmed Mahloof to house arrest for the remainder of his trial.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Dunya repeated her call to move all arrested under the state of emergency to their homes.

She also said that her father, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom should also be transferred home.

Numerous political leaders were arrested during the state of emergency in February and have been charged with terrorism.

MP Mahloof was charged for protesting outside Maafushi Prison. Dunya’s father Maumoon and brother MP Faris Maumoon remains in prison and have been accused of attempting to overthrow the government.

Others being investigated for terrorism include Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Justice Ali Hameed, Dunya’s brother-in-law Ahmed Nadheem, former police commissioner Ahmed Areef, MP Abdulla Sinan, MP Abdulla Riyaz, MP Ilham Ahmed, MP Abdulla RIyaz. The court has ordered them to remain in jail for the rest of their trials.
