The Joint Opposition has decided to put up a billboard calling for the release of political prisoners arrested by President Abdulla Yameen’s government.
In a press conference, North-Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy said that more than 40 people have been arrested due to their reform efforts.
Fahmy said that they will put up the billboard tonight in front of the Jumhoree Party (JP) office and urged all the supporters of the opposition’s reform work to come to Kunooz.
He also said that the opposition parties will continue speaking out against the current government’s corruption, and that a special rally will be held at Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s campaign site near Artificial Beach.
Fahmy also said that every ministry has been compromised, and that it was especially clear when looking at the recent controversy with the Islamic ministry which is reported to have misplaced some of its fund collected for the oppressed Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. He noted that RaajjeTV is an inspirational role model since it has already given all its telethon funds to the Red Crescent.
