The Criminal Court on Wednesday ordered South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof to remain under house arrest for the remainder of his trial.
Mahloof has been in Dhoonidhoo island prison since his arrest on February 22.
His lawyer Nazim Abdul Sattar said Mahloof was charged with terrorism for protesting outside Maafushi island prison on February 3, noting that Mahloof was the only one charged with terrorism over the protest.
The presiding judge on Wednesday’s hearing had refused the state’s request to keep him in jail.
Mahloof has also been charged for giving out gas masks during a political rally but hearings have not yet begun. He has also been investigated over two of his tweets.
Mahloof had also served 10 months and 24 days in prison for obstruction of a police officer during this administration.
