Former Attorney General Husnu Suood has said that the nation is currently seeing shocking abuse of state powers.
In a tweet posted early Tuesday morning, the lawyer wrote that it is a 'shocking abuse of state powers in every respect' that long-serving statesman Gayoom and Chief Justice is being charged over terror allegations.

Authorities have arrested numerous politicians after accusing them of being involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the government, including Justices Ali Hameed and Abdulla Saeed, President Gayoom, his son MP Faris Maumoon and son-in-law Mohamed Nadheem, as well as former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef, MP Abdulla Sinan, MP Ilham Ahmed, and MP Abdulla Riyaz are incarcerated on terror allegations of conspiring to overthrow the government,
While Suood was suspended from his attorney rights by the criminal court early Tuesday afternoon, a statement released from the court claims that Suood is now barred from taking on ongoing Criminal Court cases over a statement he had made to the media.
Following Suood's suspension, Lawyer Hussain Shameem and Mahfooz Saeed had taken to twitter with Shameem calling on authorities to cease the continuous harrassment of lawyers.
This is unacceptable. Criminal court has no jurisdiction to suspend lawyers. I condemn this continuous harassment of lawyers. https://t.co/cSkh2TaQnr

Following his suspension, Suood tweeted that 'the voice of justice cannot be silenced'.
