Local Government Authority (LGA) has suspended council members over a resolution passed by island councils of Addu City, B. Thulhaadhoo, and Kamadhoo islands, and forewarned to dismiss the councils.

LGA suspended Addu City's Mayor Abdulla Sodig, Deputy Mayor Mohamed Yasrif and Councillors Jamsheeda Mohamed and Ali Fahmy Didi, and revoked a month's salary.

Other coucil members from Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo and Kamadhoo islands were suspended due a resolution passed by the island councils which the LGA states was beyong the power and responsibilities given to the councils.

Suspended were all members who was involved in drafting the resolution and signed to pass it. They include Kamadhoo island Council President Abdulla Rasheed and Vice President Ahmed Sajid, and Thulhaadhoo Island Council President Ahmed Rasheed and Vice President Zaaid Rasheed.

LGA also threatened to dismiss the councils and file a case at the High Court if they repeat it.
