Government ‘witch-hunt’ of opposition must end: ex-President Nasheed
Nasheed said this in a post on his Twitter account
Officers arrested MDP national council members Mohamed Waheed and Ibrahim Rasheed
Opposition lawmakers Abdulla Riyaz and Mohamed Abdulla are also facing prosecution

Former President Mohamed Nasheed, one of the leaders of opposition parties, has called on incumbent President Abdulla Yameen to end his ‘witch-hunt’, and to release detainees.

Nasheed said this in a post on his Twitter account, where he refers to the police’s arrest of two members of the Maldivian Democratic Party’s national council.

Officers arrested Mohamed ‘Wadde’ Waheed, president of the party’s branch in the Ungoofaaru constituency, and Ibrahim ‘Ibu’ Rasheed, president of the branch in the Maamingili constituency.

Wadde was arrested from his home in capital city Malé under Maldives’ ongoing state of emergency, while Ibu was arrested under a court warrant.

On 8th March, special operations officers had stormed the MDP’s headquarters in Malé and arrested council members Ilyas Labeeb, a former parliamentarian as well, and Hassan ‘Hassantay’ Ahmed.

Opposition lawmakers Abdulla Riyaz and Mohamed Abdulla are also facing prosecution after having been arrested under the ongoing state of emergency in the Maldives.
