Kidnapped judges cannot be punished with amendments: Qasim
Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed were arrested after the government declared the State of Emergency
MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla proposed an amendment to dismiss any judge who is convicted of criminal charges
Qasim said that President Abdulla Yameen and Speaker Abdulla Maseeh have gone insane

Jumhoree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim has said that amendments to the judicature will not allow the government to convict the two “kidnapped” justices.

Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed were arrested at the Supreme Court, after the government declared the State of Emergency, and they have been accused of planning to overthrow the government.

Qasim, who is in self-exile in Germany, in a tweet asked how the powers given to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the parliament could be removed.

He also said that President Abdulla Yameen and Speaker Abdulla Maseeh have gone insane.

The ruling party’s deputy leader and Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla proposed an amendment to dismiss any judge who is convicted of criminal charges that is upheld by the Supreme Court.
